Coming soon to a road construction site near you: unlit barricades!

There are so many nutty proposals being made by Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature that I am going to start blogging on them, since the media isn’t. They couldn’t, there are so many that the right-wingers would accuse them of bias if they covered even a fraction of them. Not that the right-wingers don’t already fling charges of bias around.

This bill, AB 609, will eliminate the common sense requirement that barricades placed on roads have flashing lights mounted on the top. These flashers make sense in all areas, particularly low-light rural roads that are blocked off.

The bill goes so far as to include barricades for contractors who need to block off a lane in order to do building work (e.g. When windows are replaced on some Downtown buildings). So in other words, if you are a worker on one of these projects that goes into the evening, make sure your affairs are in order.

This was done at the request of WisDOT, which is required to comply with nationwide standards regarding it’s signs, signals and other devices used to regulate traffic. It looks like they’re trying to save money, not by placing on hold the ridiculous highway-to-nowhere projects in Scooter the Dropout’s 2011-2013 Transportation budget, but by eliminating common sense safeguards for motorists and workers alike.

Welcome to the new Wisconsin, brought to you by the GOP clown car of crazy corrupt cranks that rode the 2010 angry white teabagger wave into office. Make sure you vote in the recalls to oust these fools.

There are more crazy bills where that came from! Some of these you may have heard of, others you probably haven’t. I’ll try to cover the ones that haven’t been getting much attention.
